If you are someone who really enjoys typing and computer work and would love to be able to do so from home for an honest paycheck, you may have tried to find data entry work that you can do online. However, it’s likely your search hasn’t led you anywhere good, am I right?

While there are a few opportunities available, the options are usually not what you had in mind and pay very little for the effort you give.

What Types of Data Entry Work Is There?

– filling out surveys
– medical transcription
– Google Adsense ads

The downside of some work from home data entry jobs is that they usually require some professional training in order to do them, as in the case of legal or medical coding and transcription. Others just simply don’t pay enough to be worth your time, as is the case with filling out surveys.

Often times typing alone is not skill enough to tackle these kinds of jobs and you could spend over a thousand dollars of your own money in order to be “trained” to do them. You then have to go and find the work yourself, while entirely possible, it is just one more unpaid obstacle that you have to overcome.

One example of this is medical transcription from home. While I know several people who do this job and make money from it, it can be difficult to get started and to find businesses willing to work with you, it also requires some training in order to excel at it.

Data entry of this nature essentially consists of you listening to material and inputting the data, this usually requires you to have special equipment such as a foot pedal and/or headphones.

What’s Wrong With Filling Out Surveys for Cash?

There is nothing wrong with actually filling out surveys for money, I’ve done it and yes you actually can make money this way. The problem? You make pennies. It’s sad really, because with these programs half the time you don’t even qualify for the surveys (so you wasted valuable time to figure this out), and then even if you do qualify they can be really time consuming and just don’t pay enough. There are far better ways to spend your money working online I assure you. And be warned about the programs that make you purchase a product in order to fill out surveys. They simply organize it in a way to get you started, but they aren’t necessary and they usually are a waste of your money.

What About Google Adsense Jobs?

If you’ve been searching than chances are you come across the “Google Adsense Jobs” which have to do with creating targeted advertisements with Google Adsense. Although I’m not sure I would call this true data entry work as there is a lot more to it then just entering data.

So What Can You Do?

Many of the above types of work from home jobs are severely lacking in their income potential as well. There is a lot of hard work that goes into preparing yourself for transcription positions plus having to find your own companies to work for makes it pretty hard to succeed. The good news is, there is an alternative to all of these kinds of jobs. It isn’t necessarily “data entry” per se, although I’m not sure I’d consider the above examples exactly that either, in my honest opinion, but it is something you can do from home, and the even better news – the income potential far exceeds the examples listed above.

In Conclusion:

Yes, legitimate “data entry jobs” do exist and you can make money filling out surveys online, doing medical transcription work or even creating Google Adsense ads. But a couple of these will require out of pocket expenses for you and take a lot of work to get started, the other simply won’t give you much return for your effort.

There are a lot of ways to make money on the internet. You can also do freelance work if you have a particular skill that others may find useful (most of us do, remember just because you can do it, doesn’t mean everyone can!)

Although it may seem like slave labor, actually there is a lot of potential to make more money than the $4 (Fiverr takes $1…oy, painful but true) you make from a job and there is the potential to do quite well earning money from this website.

It really just boils down to finding something you enjoy doing that can make you money online. Actually, if you do that, the term “working” goes out the window. When you enjoy what you are doing, not only will you make more money doing it, but you’ll be extremely relaxed and happy while you do it. That’s the trick. And all of the above money making opportunies that I mentioned above have the potential to almost be a “past time” that makes you money.
