It isn’t necessary to spend any money on domains if you would rather start completely free, writing articles and submitting them to places like ArticlesBase or Squidoo.com doesn’t cost a dime, there a lot of people out there that never have their own website and they do just fine.
Your income level is limitless, just be sure you realize that it takes time to see some results, earning money online by writing articles isn’t going to make you rich overnight, it may never make you “rich” so to speak, although it certainly could, it is purely based on your level of action and what areas you choose to focus on. It is no different than certain regular jobs paying more than others, if you choose a topic that a lot of people are interested in purchasing items from your income level will be higher, then say if you choose to write about a certain travel destination that only a small minority are interested in.
